Infosys Introduces New Attendance Rules: Employees Must Work From Office at Least 10 Days a Month

In a move to bring employees back to office spaces, Indian IT giant Infosys, founded by billionaire Narayana Murthy, has reportedly introduced a new hybrid work policy requiring employees to work from office at least 10 days per month.

The move comes as Infosys aims to boost on-site attendance, which has seen a sharp decline following the COVID-19 pandemic, when remote work became the norm across the IT industry.

Stricter Hybrid Work Policies

According to media reports, starting March 10, 2025, Infosys will implement new system interventions to limit the number of work-from-home days employees can apply for each month. The company will also prioritize project needs over departmental or individual requests for remote work, signaling a shift toward greater emphasis on physical presence.

Employees will reportedly have to mark their attendance through a mobile-based system each time they come to the office. The system will track compliance with the 10-day minimum attendance requirement.

An internal email reportedly sent to employees stated:
“To support this, starting March 10, 2025, system interventions will be implemented to limit the number of work-from-home days that can be applied each month. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the new hybrid work requirements while maintaining flexibility for employees.”

Balancing Flexibility and Business Needs

Infosys’ new policy reflects the broader trend in the IT industry, where companies are reevaluating hybrid and remote work models to strike a balance between employee flexibility and business outcomes.

The emphasis on office attendance could also enhance collaboration, foster innovation, and improve project delivery efficiency, according to industry observers.

However, with the rising preference for flexible work arrangements, Infosys’ move may also spark debate among employees, many of whom have grown accustomed to remote work benefits over the past few years.
